Meet Our Team
Brad Burtwistle, DDS, RN
Originally from Northeastern Nebraska, Dr. Burtwistle and his family have lived in the Monument area since 1998 and love being a part of this wonderful community. He began his medical career as a Paramedic, then became a Registered Nurse, serving as a Charge Nurse at Penrose Community Hospital and St. Francis Medical Centers. After serving as Director of Nursing at Audubon Surgery Center at St. Francis, Dr. Burtwistle went on to further his career and become a Dentist.
In 2009, Dr. Burtwistle attended Dental School at the University of Colorado Denver, earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and purchased Monument Family Dentistry in 2014.
Dr. Burtwistle has two daughters. His wife Julia is a retired Air Force Officer and has worked as a business consultant for over 15 years. In 2014, Julia also founded and is the Executive Director of a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for a childhood disease that affects their family.
Thomas Rikli, DDS
Born and raised in Southeast Nebraska, Dr Rikli graduated from the University of Nebraska Kearney with a degree in Medical Technology. Dr. Rikli worked as a Medical Technologist several years prior to Graduating from University of Nebraska College of Dentistry. Dr. Rikli practiced dentistry in rural Nebraska for 13 years prior to moving to Colorado in 1991. His family lived in the Monument area for several years prior to moving to Colorado Springs in 1991 where he. practiced dentistry until becoming a part of the Monument Family Dentistry team in 2019.
Dr. Rikli and his wife Monica have 5 children including three daughters and two sons, and 8 grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with family and the great outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer. Monica is a Chaplain at University Health Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Jill: Patient Coordinator
Jill is a Colorado native except for about 10 years spent in northern California. Her professional background includes working with both patients and students in Doctors offices and universities. Jill holds a degree in organizational management from Colorado Christian University. Jill joined the Monument Family Dentistry team in August 2014. Outside of work, she is married, has three teenage children, and lives in Monument.
Julie: Treatment Coordinator & Registered Dental Hygienist
Julie received her Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene in 1992 from the University of Colorado in Denver and was an Orthodontic Assistant for several years prior to continuing her education in dental hygiene.
Julie joined the Monument Family Dentistry team in July 2013. She and her husband, Ken, have lived in the Monument area since 1998 and enjoy doing projects around the house and taking scenic road trips.
Julie also enjoys teaching and sharing her passion for scrapbooking and paper-crafting with others in her direct sales business.
Brenda: Registered Dental Hygienist
She is also a DEXIS Certified Instructor and has been Teaching the Software and digital radiography utilized by dental practices for the past 16 years. Brenda’s enthusiastic personality and laughter are contagious, and her patients really enjoy her approach to life’s adventures.
When Brenda is not racing around the countryside, she enjoys spending time with her husband Jon and their two children the Lord blessed them with. (Trevor and Bailey). In her spare time, she enjoys riding her Harley Motorcycle.
Catherine: Registered Dental Hygienist
Catherine has been in the dental field for over 15 years and has Applied Science Degrees in Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene, both from Pueblo Community College.
Catherine’s passion is for people. She builds lasting relationships with them by showing her patients that she cares not only about their mouths, but about their overall health and well-being as a person.
Originally from Washington State, Colorado has been Catherine’s home for the past 19 years. In her free time she loves taking scenic drives, relaxing in the mountains with her husband in their 2 person hammock, traveling, singing karaoke, dancing, spending time with her 4 beautiful children Salina, Christian, Xavier, Analysa and her amazing husband Andrew.
Catherine says, “Being part of the team at Monument Family Dentistry is more than I could have wished for. I feel like I have found my forever dental home.”
Jenny: Registered Dental Hygienist
Jenny has been in dentistry since she was 19 years old. She loves the beautiful state of Colorado and has lived here for 28 years. Jenny began her journey in dentistry as a dental assistant. After receiving her certificate from Pikes Peak Community College in dental assisting, she worked part time for a general dentist and an orthodontic practice. Both of these offices were very supportive in helping Jenny pursue her goal of becoming a dental hygienist. Jenny graduated in 2004 from Pueblo Community College with an Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene.
Jenny says, “I feel fortunate to work in an office where I am constantly encouraged to continue growing as a professional. I like to have fun with my patients and make them feel as comfortable as possible in a dental setting. I am married to an amazing man who inspires me all the time. I am a very proud mother of twin boys, they are my world. I also enjoy helping my husband manage a flooring and property restoration business. I love to camp, ski, and take advantage of any scenic adventure that Colorado has to offer! ”
Kara: Expanded Duties Dental Assistant
Kara has been in dentistry for nearly 18 years and truly loves the platform which has allowed her to serve, educate and care for patients. She loves the ongoing growth and education provided at Monument Family Dentistry which has allowed her to perform and deliver the highest quality of care.
2 years ago, she moved from Washington State and was hopeful of finding a forever practice to continue her career in dentistry. She feels so fortunate to have found Dr. Burtwistle and the team at Monument Family Dentistry for the warm family feel and shared commitment for excellence.
When she is not caring for patients and their teeth, she leads a very active lifestyle and is committed to her health, longevity and relationships. She enjoys traveling, cooking, working out, and being outside in nature. Kara and her husband Nate have two black labs, Jamo and Nala, that we love dearly and spend lots of time out exploring Colorado Springs and beyond.
Kayla: Expanded Duties Dental Assistant
Kayla has been a dental assistant for 5 years. She furthered her education 3 years ago by earning her Expanded Duties Dental Assisting Certificate. She enjoys how rewarding the position is and strives to make patients comfortable throughout their dental appointment. She believes that being a part of Monument Family Dentistry has been a true blessing and is grateful to continue her career with such an amazing team.
When she is not in the office, she enjoys spending time volunteering at local rodeos, taking her horse to sort cattle and view the wonderful scenery that Colorado has to offer. She has a wonderful boyfriend who supports her to be the best she can be.
